The Surfers and a group of friends took advantage of the good spring weather and went into the Kingdom of Fife to visit the Abbot’s House at Dunfermline Abbey.
We went to a Café in the Abbot’s House for a quick snack lunch. The food was good and very reasonable – £3.75 for Stovies with Oatcakes and a cup of Tea. After we were fed we were taken on a conducted tour of the building costing £3. There is still a lot of work to be done to restore the building as near as possible to its original state. It is well worth a visit.
After the House we went to the new Abbey and a very kind guide pointed out some interesting features, especially the beautiful stained glass windows.
The body of King Robert the Bruce lies under the pulpit but history tells us that his heart was taken to the Holy Land by the Black Douglas for burial in Jerusalem. We had a quick look into the ruins of the original Abbey. The Guide told us we would be charged £4 if we went into the Abbey.
