The Surfers would like to add their congratulations to those already given to the survivors of the Arctic Convoys during World War II. The medals which finally – but only recently – were awarded to these brave men after such a long wait to give recognition to their bravery and sacrifices. Especially when Russian citizens in ports such as Murmansk and Archangel have acknowledged the life-saving help they were given during the war.
This Surfer has vivid childhood memories of ‘Uncle Pat’ sending postcards to his sister (my Mum).
I thought it was so exciting to be getting a postcard from such a faraway place and only in my adult years realised the worry for the family till my Uncle got home safely.
