World War I – It was touching this morning to see on this morning’s BBC news programme the burial of the remains of 4 soldiers who were killed in 1917. Their remains were found by a French farmer ploughing his field about 2 years ago.
Two of the bodies were identified by items found with the remains, one an identity bracelet named Lt. John Pritchard and a signet ring identified Pte. Christopher Elphick. Sadly the other two bodies have not been identified but DNA have been from both remains in case future identification is possible.
The four coffins were given a military funeral and descendents of the two men identified were able to be present at what was a very emotional service.
