After the threat of closure earlier this year and a well publicised volunteer call, there was a sudden rush of local residents and organisations willing to get involved and the Gala Day went ahead and was a huge success!
The Gala went from being a Saturday afternoon only event to a week long extended programme. This began with a Tea Dance at the Gorgie War Memorial Hall – a special Family Swim Event at Dalry Baths and ended with the traditional Gala in Murieston Park.
The Gala had a wide variety of stands as well as the usual events and rounded off a very successful week. Despite the outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease the Gala was well supported by local residents of all ages.
This event was such a success that the Committee are already planning similar events for next year. Two of the most popular events this year were the good old-fashioned standbys – the Egg and Spoon Race and the Sack Race – which will definitely be in next year’s programme.
The Committee would welcome suggestions from older residents who would like to see the return of old-style street games and who would be prepared to teach these skills.
